Technical outdoor clothing for the mountains

Jöttnar is a UK outdoor clothing brand founded by two former Royal Marines Commandos. We make technical mountain wear for climbing, mountaineering, skiing, trekking and trail running, built to work as a system from the skin out: base layers, mid layers, insulation and shells, plus mountain trousers, head and neckwear and everyday tees. This is the full men’s range in one place.

Men's outdoor clothing by layer

Waterproof and shell jackets.

Our hardshells are built on SKJOLDR™, our proprietary 3-layer waterproof fabric. They run from Isleif, our lightest at under 300g, through the 399g Midgard and the all-mountain Grim to Asgard, our most fully featured shell. Alongside them sit the Sigvard stretch softshell and the Einhar windshell for fast, light days. Shop men's waterproof and shell jackets.

Down jackets.

Hydrophobic goose down from 650 to 850 fill power, with synthetic fill where down compresses and moisture builds. From the lightweight Varmr and Asta gilet to Fjorm, our warmest jacket. Shop men's down jackets.

Synthetic and active insulation.

Floyen and Ravn use synthetic insulation that keeps working in the wet, and Ravn is our warmest synthetic layer. The Asger range pairs Polartec® Alpha™ with a windproof outer for high-output days. Shop all insulated jackets.

Fleece and mid layers.

Eldar in breathable, hollow-core Octa® fleece, and Njorunn for everyday warmth on changeable days. Shop men's fleece and mid layers.

Base layers and technical tops.

Arvind and Heimdall merino base layers, the Mar merino tee, and the ultralight Elv tee and Verja hoody in recycled technical fabric, for next-to-skin comfort that moves sweat away. Shop men's base layers and technical t-shirts and tops.

Trousers and shorts.

Vanir-LT hardshell trousers for winter, Tol softshell trousers for three-season mountain days, hardwearing waxed Torv trekking trousers and shorts, and Bjarg, Sunnan and Vikja shorts for warm weather and trail running. Shop men's mountain trousers and shorts.

Head and neckwear.

Merino and fleece-lined technical beanies, PrimaLoft® ThermoNet® and winter-grade merino neckwear, and a featherlight trail cap. Shop men's head and neckwear.

Everyday tees.

Organic and Pima cotton t-shirts for off the hill, in the same t-shirts and tops collection.

Outdoor clothing FAQs

What is technical outdoor clothing?

Clothing designed for a job in the mountains rather than for looks alone. That means fabrics chosen for waterproofing, breathability, warmth for weight or drying speed, and features such as helmet-compatible hoods, harness-compatible pockets and articulated patterning that make it work when you are climbing, skiing or carrying a pack.

How should I layer for the mountains?

Start with a base layer that moves sweat away from your skin. Add a mid layer or insulation for warmth, and finish with a shell to keep out wind and rain. Adjust the layers as your effort and the weather change. Read the Mountain Layering Guide: How to Layer for the Mountains.

What should I look for in a waterproof jacket?

A 3-layer fabric with fully taped seams, a hood that fits over a helmet if you climb or ski, pockets you can reach with a pack or harness on, and venting such as pit zips for hard work. Read the Hardshell Jacket Guide: What to Look For.

Where can I buy Jöttnar?

Online here, with the full range, and in selected Ellis Brigham stores, which carry a range of our down, hardshell and insulated jackets.
