LIGHTWEIGHT WARMTH FOR MULTIPLE SCENARIOS

A hoodless, collared version of the Fenrir, the Thorsen is designed for further weight saving and for those who prefer no hood. Stuffed with 850 Fill Power goose down, in a premium 93/7 down/feather ratio for an excellent warmth to weight ratio. Our water-repellent down from DownTek™ stays dry 10x longer than untreated down. Unlike inferior versions, our water repellency won’t wash out and is free of harmful fluorocarbons. Our ethical approach to down sourcing complies with the Responsible Down Standard.

A high quality water repellent rip-stop face fabric resists the wet, and potential moisture zones at the cuffs, hem and collar contain synthetic insulation. The Thorsen also features stretch technical cuffs, and is supplied with its own stuff sack for easy carriage.

INTERNAL STORAGE

Internal zipped chest pocket sized to take phones, keys and maps.

LEAVE GLOVES ON

Stretch cuffs mean no removing gloves to put your jacket on – bulky gloves just push right through and seal in warm air.

STOWS SMALL

The Thorsen has a great warmth to weight ratio and stuffs down small into its own compression sack.

SNAG FREE

Anti-snag hem cords discourage tangling with gear, a problem with outdated loop cords. Keep cold air out.

My first Jottnar, wow!

I was looking for a good warm jacket, for watching sport, (rugby) to save having to dress up like a Michelin man. I came across this site by accident, I'd never heard of Jottnar. But the reviews and the company story gave me confidence to take a punt. I'm so glad I did. Now instead of 5 layers, I only need three, including the outer. And I stay warmer. Not tested out yet below 3c, but I'm confident that I won't be disappointed. It's weight belies it's performance. It's a smart looking bit of kit as well. The three pockets are ample for my needs. I'm quite long in the body, but the jacket's length at the back gives ample coverage when sitting or bending forward.
I like the look of the Erling base layer, as I work outdoors as a Groundsman, and may well purchase this item next.
No complaints so far

First Jottnar product, not the last - superb

I am active (British) military, currently serving in Nevada and I travel a lot across the US states. I also hike, and ride motorbikes.

I've used this as a baselayer under my bike jacket down to 0 degree ambient (translates to about -20 with windchill), i've worn it out and about in 0 degrees ambient waiting for friends, i've worn it hiking and i'm used it constantly for travel as my carry-on jacket since it packs down. Regulates body temperature very well. Not felt cold once.

Some advantages:

- The pack down ability is incredible, much better than the Rab and Mountain Hardware lightweight down jackets I used to have.
- The 850 is clearly good quality - i've not seen it 'leaking' down yet and it has regulated my core extremely well
- The fit and finish is outstanding. Noticeably better than Rab/Mountain Hardware/Eddie Baur/Spyder. I also own a Canada Goose Parka and I would place Jottnar equal to/slightly ahead. $350 may seem a lot but I think it's worth the outlay. It certainly lasts well.

Criticism

- The shell material, although hard wearing is extremely slippery. I own wear a bag thrown over one shoulder and the grip of the jacket just isn't there, forcing me to wear both straps and entirely forego messenger style bags. It's annoying for sure - no deal breaker since the rest of the jacket is so good but still not ideal.

All in all i'm extremely impressed by this jacket, I will be buying more from Jottnar, and I doubt i'll go back to any other outdoor brand for my technical clothing needs.

Almost perfect

This is a great jacket, very warm for it's weight, a long back which is great for me and good hem draw cords. I've used it in low 1-2 C in UK and - 10C in Ukraine and it's performed brilliantly. A few things keeping it from 5/5, first is that the insulation thins on the back of the neck quickly, the cuffs are a bit loose, I personal prefer a soft longer cuff (like Arc'teryx Atom) , and the lettering on the inside of the jacket started to peel after a only a few weeks (minor point).

The best down jacket I've ever owned.

The best down jacket I've ever owned. It has been all round the world with me and never disappoints. Worn over a t-shirt when mild and fully layered up when seriously cold. Just does the job.
