I have usually been either a Rab or Arc'teryx kit buyer but being ex military I decided to give the guys at Jõttnar a go. (Yes the 'gucci' adverts work)
I had been looking at the Arc'teryx's Atom SL as I needed a lightweight insulated jacket. (I have had a Atom LT - now just the 'Atom' for years but the quality of some of their new kit has definitely gone south)
I decided on the Thorlak. I initially ordered the small but it was way too small for me so returned it and got the medium which is a perfect slim fit for me. (I'm 173cm 70kg with 40" chest) Morgan at customer service is very helpful.
The first thing you notice is the quality of the product. It is very well made and the materials are top notch. It is also incredibly warm for its weight and thickness. I tested it out on my recent trip to Scotland to do the first leg of the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Drymen. The Thorlak packs down very small and weighs only 340g. It coped well with being used as a travelling jacket from London to Scotland. The pockets are especially spacious and the zips secure. I was worried that a 17kg pack and its straps might mark, stretch or tear the fabric however it coped without and marks or pulls. I used it on the hike to stay warm during breaks which it did well and helped wick the horrendous amount of sweat I produced. This hasn't caused any obvious stains etc. Once hung up to air it looks like new. Overall extremely pleased with this jacket. It's well made, durable, lightweight, strong and has good storage. I think the only thing to watch out for is that the sizing runs a little small and with it being a snug fit jacket you have to choose your size carefully. 5 Stars!
