The Bergelmir is Jöttnar’s flagship technical mountain shell, built for total protection and uncompromised performance. Constructed from Polartec® NeoShell®, the Bergelmir jacket combines softshell-like breathability and stretch with hardshell robustness. In a burly 80 denier grade, it delivers long-term durability in a lightweight, streamlined and fully waterproof package. Launched to critical acclaim in 2013, the Bergelmir has quickly become a staple amongst guides, winter climbers and mountain rescue teams.
Bergelmir Hardshell Jacket
No more snagging
Anti-snag hem draw cords eliminate snagging when harnesses and gear is worn; a problem encountered with traditional, loop draw cords.
Triple reinforced stitching ensures the VELCRO™ will not detach from the garment. Hypalon® cuff tabs are harder wearing and longer lasting than fabric cuff tabs. Elasticated cinch provides the best possible seal against the elements.
Large chest pockets easily swallow map, gloves and hats are positioned to be harness and rucksack compatible. The YKK® Aquaguard® VISLON® water repellent zips feature the new YKK® bottom-stop design to defend against the elements on every aspect of the zip.
Twin Internal Storage
Two internal valuables pockets, sized to accommodate most smartphones.
What’s the point of waterproof if you’re always soaked with sweat?
The Bergelmir is built with Polartec® NeoShell®, a waterproof 3-layer fabric with the most breathable membrane in the world. Shedding layers or relying on pit-zips can be avoided altogether through enhanced breathability. Prior to NeoShell® the elusive balance between waterproof and windproof protection and true breathability had yet to exist in a hard shell fabric.
Water repellence in every detail

You’re not paying for extra pockets, or fancy venting systems. Materials are high quality and manufacturing standards are very good. The face fabric feels robust but is still fairly lightweight. Overall, the Jöttnar jacket just says excellent quality. Best in test.
A formidable system against the harshest of winter conditions. Overall, this is serious kit equal to the most serious of weather.
Using NeoShell instead of any other membrane is the key; the incredible breathability is not only noticeable, it's a pleasure to try and push its limits.
The attention to detail is amazing, the stitch count is high. The laser cutting is precise and all the fittings are well thought out and high quality.
