At Jöttnar, we obsess over high-performing outdoor gear. Our joy comes in crafting a product we truly believe in ourselves - but not for the product’s sake, rather because we love what it unlocks for us. At the core of it all is getting outside and doing hard things, in whatever form that may take.

We get inspired and excited by stories of others out there getting after it. And since we spend so much of our time absorbing these stories ourselves, we decided to share some of the most inspiring and interesting ones for you in a neat package: The White Room.

When he wasn’t tending to his sheep, Joss Naylor was a record-setting fell runner. In 1971, he ran the fastest known time on the UK’s National Three Peaks - a record that will likely never be broken, thanks in part to the rally-prepped Ford that drove him between the mountains. A humble, generous, and accomplished man with an inspiring athletic legacy.

The subtitle ‘climbing to extinction’ is something of a spoiler, but not really that surprising for a book charting the birth of the fast, light, Alpine-style era of Himalayan climbing of the 70s and 80s.

Brian Hall’s account of this pioneering period is based on his first-hand experience, and that of his friends - each starring in their own chapter. Mayhem, delinquency, raw ambition and tragedy mix with stunning audacity, vision, and courage. Beautifully written, with humour and spirit crackling through the bleakness.

Out and About.

Jöttnar customer Shane was in the Alps for a long summer weekend with his guiding team:

“We caught the Panoramique lift from the Aiguille du Midi until we reached Helbronner. From there, we roped up and traversed toward the Aiguille d’Entrèves.

The Salluard route, a lesser-known gem not to be confused with its popular nearby namesake, graded D 5a, offered solitude, just enough complexity, and moments that demanded full presence. We bivvied out at the Col. The overnight was simple, exposed but quiet, with the kind of silence you only get up high.

The trip was an excellent chance to put our Jöttnar kit to the test. As veterans, we trust the gear because it’s designed by likeminded people who understand what works in tough conditions.”
