Asmund Hardshell Jacket
That elusive balance
The Asmund uses a 3-layer ultra-lightweight micro-ripstop Polartec® NeoShell® fabric. NeoShell® provides a durable protective shell with advanced wicking capabilities to keep moisture vapour moving away from the body. Shedding entire layers or relying on pit-zips can be avoided altogether through enhanced breathability. Prior to the invention of NeoShell® the elusive balance between waterproof and windproof protection and true breathability had yet to exist in a hard shell fabric. We use only Polartec® NeoShell® in our waterproof, breathable garments.
No more snagging
Anti-snag hem draw cords discourage snagging when harness and gear is worn, a problem encountered with traditional loop draw cords.
Large storage, safe storage
Large chest pockets easily swallow a map, hat or gloves and are harness and rucksack compatible. The YKK® Aquaguard® water repellent chest zips seal out the elements. The centre-front zip is reinforced with an internal storm gasket.
Keep valuables safe
Single internal valuables pocket sized to accommodate most smartphones.
Wrists sealed, hands protected
Triple reinforced stitching ensures the VELCRO™ will not detach from the garment. Hypalon® cuff tabs are harder wearing and longer lasting than fabric cuff tabs. Scooped cuffs provide back of hand protection against the elements.

Jöttnar’s incredible success, despite only launching in 2013, comes from making solid mountaineering clothing with impressive attention to detail. There are two places on earth where nothing is waterproof: under water and in Scotland. Well, it’s certainly waterproof, and I found it impressively breathable. In fact, Jöttnar are so confident in NeoShell’s breathability, they’ve not used any pit-zips. It’s also softer feeling than Gore-Tex shells. Over the next couple of months the Asmund was with me daily, on the hill while climbing and carrying loads, by the sea running in rain and even on a fashion shoot. Misuse or abusive use of a jacket can often cause abrasions and discoloration, but after three months, the Asmund proved to be durable and untainted.
