Men’s Climbing Hard Shell Waterproof Mountain Jacket

HIGH PERFORMANCE TECHNICAL HARD SHELL

REVISED

Odin is a fully featured hard shell technical mountain jacket built to the same specification as our Grim hard shell, but with chest pockets instead of the Grim’s hand pockets. Odin is designed to be a winter fortress for the most atrocious conditions.

Made from 3-layer Jöttnar SKJOLDR™ windproof, waterproof, breathable fabric for outstanding harsh weather protection and durability.

Features include: integrated RECCO® Rescue System reflector for improved safety; two way pit zips for internal temperature regulation; helmet compatible hood for excellent visibility and unimpeded movement; internal valuables/smartphone pocket; zipped forearm pocket; large inner dump pocket to stash gloves; new Cohaesive™ hem adjusters for easy on-the-move setting; anti-snag hem cords to avoid tangling with gear.

Wear over a mid layer or base layer as your protective outer layer for climbing, skiing and mountaineering.

Updates for 2022 include: New Cohaesive™ adjustors at hem and hood aperture, improved glove-compatible hood adjustment, integrated RECCO® Rescue System reflector for improved safety.

Perfect fit, reasonably light, very durable!

By the way thanks, Jottnar, for supporting English MRT teams.

Service was excellent, and the whole process was effortless. This jacket will be my "worst Cairngorms weather" top layer, and I am unusually paranoid about equipment failure. Still, I have noticed Jottnar jackets cropping up in the military mountain community over the past couple of years, and on the backs of course instructors at Glenmore Lodge. So I am reasonably confident!

If you're buying online, you may think that the material is stiff and crackly like other well-known membrane fabrics, and this is much less so. OK, not Paramo-silent, but far less rigid than you might expect.

The cut is excellent. There's room for layers underneath, and it's not restrictive, but at the same time, there's no excess material. The design is simple and functional, and I think I'll enjoy wearing this jacket.

I bought an Odin in XL as that's my regular size but feel it's more like an XXL as there is bags of space (baggy) although this will suit lots of layers, I personally don't need too many layers as I tend to run hot, my Magni is just fine on its own with base layer 🙂 I would have preferred the red colour but wasn't sure if it was a very bright red or a more subdued amber shade ? So went for the Eclipse in the end. Haven't wore it yet as the weather's been great since I received it but I'm sure it will keep out the Scottish weather just fine. Maybe a wee fastener on the inside left pocket would be good as I see stuff falling out when you lean over ? Over all a good solidly built jacket I'm sure will stand the Scottish weather test.
