Men's Hydrophobic Down Jacket

Very warm, very comfortable and looks great. Seems very good quality and made to last. True to size.

As a relatively long-term afficionado of Jottnar and the proud owner of among other items, the wonderful Fenrir, I took the plunge on the Fjorm. Primarily to replace a style over substance North Face parker (neither overly waterproof, windproof or warm). It's main use intended to be cold South Coast days/nights, (whether a walk along the beach or a walk back from the pub!), sitting in a cold football/rugby stadium, watching my kids do sports at the weekend stood on cold sidelines, AND of course my skiing trips - not for the pistes (for which I use a Floyen under a hard shell) but for cold nights around town, or apre-ski.

As one might imagine, it copes with the South Coast walks incredibly well - probably too well. I certainly wouldn't use it for real exerting walks on the Downs. Once you generate a bit of heat it's going nowhere in the Fjorm! Caught out in a shower, again, it didn't seem to worry the Fjorm, it's thick enough to offer some protection, and the hydrophobic down keeps its shape, a good level of insulation and dries super quick.

A cold winter Saturday afternoon at Fratton Park or Twickenham? Fjorm laughs at the chill. If only Jottnar did some nice Fjorm based Boxers to keep your bum warm!

The real test was Chamonix in January with evening temps down to -6 and up at the Aguille du Midi around -16. The cold didn't even begin to make a dent (underneath I just had a T-shirt and a micro fleece). This is a jacket that wants to mother you and keep you cozy and warm - and succeeds admirably. I've been to Tromso and sub -25 degree temps, and I have little doubt Fjorm would just shrug and say "Is that all you've got?".

Like all Jottnar gear it's designed to look good - and does - whilst having the substance some other manufacturers fail on. Yes its expensive, and yes you can find similar looking jackets cheaper. But look at the detail and you can see where the price differential comes in. Indeed you can find equally or more expensive jackets without the attention to detail. You can really feel the quality with the Fjorm. And just those small things that show attention to detail like the small circular disc at the bottom of the zip that makes it easier to zip it up (hard to explain!).

As someone who generates a lot of heat, I probably won't use it as much as I'd like and the Fenrir gets almost daily use. If you live in colder climes than South Coast England or walk/climb in the Lakes or Cairngorms etc, I'm sure you can get a lot more use out of it.

On a final practical note, I'm 6ft with a post Xmas weight of touching 15 stone (now declining!) and the Large is perfect (as indeed it is with all my Jottnar gear).

Best jacket of this capability I’ve ever owned!

I have this fjorm jacket and also the asta gilet, both items are fantastic. The fjorm jacket is a lovely fit and keeps shape very well. I have had both for over a year now so as to give an honest review based on being used for at least one winter season. The gilet is my go to jacket for pretty much everything throughout the year that doesn't involve longevity in hills, heavy rain, mountains or stints in colder weather and is perfect for pottering around in, going out for walks if the weather is kind or just going to the pub. The fjorm jacket is perfect for colder activities and days. The hood is great and well insulated and also keeps shape, and neither have lost any down over time. The only slight issue I have with the fjorm jacket is that when the hood is up, the lapel in front of the chin/mouth can be irritating until you've found a way of moving it somewhere out of the way. But that is a small gripe, although in really cold temperatures way below zero I'm not sure if this would cause cold air to get in. But for me, it's been a fantastic investment. As has the gilet.
